Dr. Vilibald A. "Bill" Jenko Interview conducted by Brian Shovers March 5, 2007 in Helena, MT. In this interview Dr. Jenko discusses his early childhood growing up in Slovenia, World War II, immigration to the United States, moving to Montana, and working at the Fort Harrison VA hospital in Helena. Dr. Jenko was born October 27, 1921 to Aloysius and Albina Jenko in Krasnja, Slovenia. He attend high school at Ljubljana and registered for medical school at the University of Ljubljana in 1941. During this time he also witnessed the Italian and later German occupations of Slovenia. In 1943 he joined the Home Guards to protect local citizens from communist partisans. As the communists took over Slovenia in 1945, Jenko became a refugee and ended up in a displaced persons' camp in Austria. He gra...
